Default Final Fantasy monster lore....

Yeah i ripped this from wikipedia but i whant to let the GW community know what tonberries are and cactuars and more of those funny strange and insane final fantasy creatures so lets start with my all time favorite...

THE TONBERRY!!!!

Appearance
A Tonberry is quite small, usually no larger than two or three feet (sixty to ninety centimetres) tall. It has green skin and a round head with a small snout and round yellow eyes; it walks on two legs and resembles, to some small degree, a bipedal lizard, or, to a greater extent, a green sock puppet. However, it always wears a hooded cloak, usually plain brown or grey in color, and its dolphin-like tail can be seen peeking out from beneath the hem. A Tonberry always carries two things: a lantern in one hand to light its way through the caves, and a long, sharp butcher's knife in the other. Stronger versions of the Tonberry have a glowing star above their head (VII) or a crown, to symbolize the Tonberry King (VIII).

History
Lore from some of the Final Fantasy games suggests that Tonberries possess a great rage against all in their hearts, and it is this anger that binds the Tonberries as a civilization, although no human has ever seen such a civilization. However, some fans disagree, characterizing the Tonberries as a highly intelligent and civilized race which forcefully defends its territory.

Combat
Despite their small size and unassuming appearance, a Tonberry is a formidable opponent. They are tough and hard to kill. While a Tonberry's foes are attacking it, it will walk slowly towards them; after every successful attack that its opponent lands, it will counter with a very powerful special ability, such as that known as "Everyone's Grudge" or "Karma." This ability seems to call upon the departed spirits of every creature that the Tonberry's attacker has defeated in the past, and summon them forth for retribution. Once the Tonberry has come close enough to its enemy, it will then attack with its knife; this attack is almost always fatal.

Other Tonberries
On rare occasions, one may encounter one of the elders of Tonberry society; these are Tonberries that have lived longer or grown larger than the rest of their kind. They are known as either Master Tonberries (Masterberries in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance) or Tonberry Kings, and can be recognized by some form of head ornamentation. Most frequently, this takes the form of a crown or a star. As a rule, the treasures that these elders guard are even rarer and more precious, and their combat abilities are (naturally) more highly developed. Master Tonberries can be found in the Northern Crater in Final Fantasy VII, and can be morphed into the powerful Ribbon accessory. The Tonberry King may appear after enough regular Tonberries are slain, and be defeated and claimed as a Guardian Force (a summoned creature) in Final Fantasy VIII.

In Final Fantasy X, the Don Tonberry can be fought in the Monster Arena after at least one of each monster from the Cavern of Stolen Fayth area has been caught. Don Tonberries have strange, almost leaf-like markings, on their heads.

More whill come i might edit this one and ad some Cactaur lore later tonight

Ok now for the cactaur didnt find that much info about it but here goes nothing...

Cactuars (also called Cactrot, or Sabotender) are a small cactus-like creature from the Final Fantasy series of computer role-playing games.

Genealogy

Cactuars are typically depicted having stiff arms and legs, three black dots on their faces representing two eyes and an oblong mouth, and three red quills at the top of their heads. They have their own language (mostly consisting of variations of the word "Ge-ka", which resemble squawks and warbles to the ear). A Cactuar also cannot stand getting wet, as it weakens them. They are best known for their defensive attack, 1000 Needles (also called Blow Fish), which does exactly 1000 hit points of damage to an opponent, regardless of defenses. There was a Jumbo Cactuar in Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy X-2 which was probably 10-20 times larger than the average Cactuar, wore a moustache (in Final Fantasy VIII) and demonstrated the 10,000 Needles attack, which instantly killed any player character (the maximum number of hit points for playable characters in the Final Fantasy series prior to Final Fantasy X being 9999). Their Japanese name derives from "Saboten Pretender", saboten meaning cactus. It refers to their ability to hide among cacti unnoticed, though this has never come into play in any of the games. They bear a striking resemblance to a Japanese spirt called a 'doso', a type of roadside idol used to give good luck.

Curiously, you'll find that nearly every recurring monster in FF has some sort of mythological background. What you see as a game may actually be full of a wealth of knowledge!

That is why i like the Final Fantasy serie so much every character every thing has so much background that if you really are gonna search for all the information about them, you would be bussy for maybe weeks maybe months?

All i actually whanted to say whas explain the fact whas Tonberries and Cactaurs are the idea just got a big bigger o_O
Oooh here is some information about a the chocobo's (il save the moogle's for later)

A Chocobo is a large, usually flightless bird capable of carrying a human. Their specific abilities vary somewhat from game to game. Most dwell in forests. While timid in the wild, and vicious if threatened, they tame rather easily and make good transports. Chocobos tend to be capable of crossing shallow water and are noted for their high speeds. They have occasionally been sighted as lightly armoured war mounts, in which case they can assist their riders with beak and claw. Overall, the species is a very versatile and useful bird, which comes in handy because - inconsequential random encounters aside - no one in a Final Fantasy has heard of a horse.

Wild Chocobos can be captured and ridden and used as a form of transport over otherwise inaccessible terrain, usually escaping after the player dismounts. Trained chocobos can be hired in some games. The chocobo's main attack in Final Fantasy Tactics is a peck. The Golden Chocobo, a special type of chocobo that could cross oceans, was first featured in Final Fantasy VII. It could not fly, although Final Fantasy IX's gold chocobo could. The black chocobo can also fly, and was first seen in Final Fantasy III. This bird could fly over mountains and such, but could only land inside forests. The onomatopoeia for a sound a Chocobo bird makes in the Final Fantasy series of video games is either "kweh" or less commonly "wark" (in English versions only) or "kue" (which is actually just another spelling of "kweh").

The design for the Chocobos is said to be based off of Hayao Miyazaki's Horseclaws, which appear in Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.

I burst out laughing when I first fought a Tonberry in FFVIII. It's still one of my all time favourite games.
